Who's Who Gallery

This "sister" site was originally created in 2008 by the publisher, Marquis Who's Who® LLC. to promote is directory: Who's Who in American Art.

Who's Who was celebrating 110 years of publishing their venerable Who's Who books. As reference needs and audiences grew and diversified, Who's Who in America® was joined by several specialized directories, compiled by a variety of criteria, that provide important subsets to contemporary biography. The more extensive Marquis Who's Who presented biographies of nearly 788,000 leaders and achievers from around the world, and from all professions. Compiled by the Marquis Who's Who editors using proprietary standards developed 110 years ago and refined annually, these trusted books are the ultimate biographical reference tool for networking, prospecting, fact-checking, and numerous other research purposes.

The 2009 Edition of Who's Who in America provided information on over 110,000 of the nation's most noteworthy people in a single, comprehensive resource.

Content is from the site's 2008 - 2009 archived pages providing a brief glimpse of just one section, Who's Who in American Art 2009 - 29th Edition.

NOTE: The current official site for the Marquis Who’s Who is found at https://www.marquiswhoswho.com/ where you will find the most up to date information about this venerable publication and where you can purchase its various directories.

Who's Who in American Art chronicles the accomplishments of over 11,000 contributors to the visual arts from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. These comprehensive biographies include entrants' dates and places of birth; education and training; commissions and exhibitions; museums holding their work; professional positions; awards; books and articles by and about them; the media in which they work; their dealers and representatives; and their mailing addresses.

The Artists' Gallery was created for individuals profiled in Who's Who in American Art as a place to showcase their work. The Artists' Gallery existed online as well as in print, first appearing in the 2008 Edition of Who's Who in American Art (published December, 2007).

Appearing alongside these accomplished artists, you'll find many other important names in the visual arts, including art administrators and curators of major museums, scholars and librarians of prominent institutions, widely published art writers and critics, highly recognizable collectors and conservators, and many more.

Entrants are listed alphabetically by name, and again in a separate Geographical Index. Plus, a Professional Classifications Index identifies all entrants within more than 50 categories — from Administrator to Mosaic Artist to Writer. A special Necrology Index lists all previous entrants who have died between 1953 and 2008.

Check this: Recently, I picked up a 2014 34th Edition of Who's Who in American Art at the book stall at the annual Wolfeboro Summer Fair. I got it for a great price of $5.00, a steal compared to a used edition on Amazon which I saw going for more than $40.00! When my teenage daughter saw the book, she was excited to use it for a paper she was writing for school about the history of pickleball and its influence in the art world. She was fascinated by how this sport had been depicted by various artists over the years and wanted to include this unique angle in her project.

To add a personal touch, she asked if she could get some pickleball-themed gifts to display during her presentation. I thought this was a brilliant idea to engage her classmates more vividly. I told her to choose some items from an online sports store where we often shopped. She happily complied, selecting a mini pickleball paddle keychain and a few other themed accessories.

On the day of her presentation, she displayed these items with enthusiasm, explaining the connection between pickleball and art, supported by her research from the Who's Who in American Art book. I am proud to say she received an A for her innovative approach. According to my daughter, the book was immensely helpful, but she felt that incorporating the pickleball-themed gifts really clinched the deal!
